In
1987, astronomers received a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity
to study a star explosion. This Hubble image shows the evolution
of Supernova 1987A. At the center the debris from the explosion
is expanding at 6 million mph. The rings are material ejected
by the star before it exploded, which are now illuminated by
radiation from the blast.
