About this image

A delicate ribbon of gas floating in our galaxy, this is a thin section of a supernova remnant caused by a stellar explosion more than 1,000 years ago. In 1006 A.D., observers recorded SN 1006, an explosion of a white dwarf star nearly 7,000 light-years away.
