About this image

This starry portrait of spiral galaxies offers a glimpse of what our Milky Way galaxy would look like to an outside observer from different positions on the sky. Although the edge-on galaxy, NGC 4302, and the tilted galaxy, NGC 4298, look quite different, they are actually very similar in terms of their structure and contents.
