Hubble Uncovers a Hidden Quasar in a Nearby Galaxy (Cygnus A)

September 21, 1994: Astronomers using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope (HST) have found, to their surprise, that a relatively nearby galaxy harbors a powerful quasar. This active galaxy, known as Cygnus A, is the second strongest radio source in the sky.
