The Webby Awards, the leading international honor for the Internet, has selected HubbleSite.org for the Best Science Website of 2007. HubbleSite also won the accompanying People's Voice Award, where the public can vote for their favorite website.
HubbleSite was selected for recognition based on excellence in content, structure and navigation, visual design, functionality, interactivity and overall experience.
HubbleSite is produced by the Space Telescope Science Institute's Office of Public Outreach. It provides "one-stop-shopping" for anyone from grade school to adult audiences who is interested in seeing the latest spectacular pictures from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope and learning about its newest discoveries.
HubbleSite.org includes educational information, press releases, a gallery of the best Hubble images, and multimedia astronomy web activities. It even offers a guide to building your own Hubble Space Telescope model or printing and framing Hubble pictures for display in your home.
Hailed as the "Oscars of the Internet" by the New York Times, The Webby Awards is the leading international award honoring excellence on the Internet. The awards are judged by the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences. The 11th Annual Webby Awards received a record 8,000 entries from all 50 states and over 60 countries worldwide. Webby Awards are awarded in over 100 categories.
The award will be presented to a representative from STScI's Office of Public Outreach at a ceremony in New York City on June 5.
