Electromagnetic Spectrum
An image of the Crab Nebula, shown imaged at various wavelengths by different instruments and missions. A radiowave image by the VLA/National Radio Astronomy Observatory, an infrared image taken by HST, an optical image by the Anglo-Australian Observatory, an Ultraviolet taken by the Hopkins Ultraviolet Imaging Telescope, and an X-Ray image taken by Chandra.
Wavelength (meters)
A scale showing approximate wavelength sizes, such as: 10^2 = Soccer field, 10^1 = House, 10^-1 = Baseball, 10^-3 = Pen point, 10^-5 = A cell, 10^-6 = Bacterium, 10^-8 = Protein, 10^-10 = Atom
Frequency (waves/second)
A chart showing various common frequencies, such as: 10^6 = AM radio, 10^8 = FM radio, 10^9 = Microwave oven, 10^11 = Radar, just below 10^15 = Laser Pen, just below 10^19 = Medical X-ray
