Flying Through the Hubble Deep Field
About this video
Duration: 22 seconds

This animation takes us on a journey through one of the Hubble Space Telescope's most remarkable images. Taken in late 1995, the Hubble Deep Field gave astronomers a glimpse down a narrow corridor from the present universe to the edge of Hubble's sensory range in the early universe. Astronomer Ken Lanzetta has placed the deep field's more than 2,000 galaxies in three-dimensional space according to their redshift, the amount of reddening the galaxies' light has undergone as a result of the expansion of the universe.
